Writing Summaries: a deeper instruction

To write a successful summary, follow these steps

1. Locate the passage from the reading you find interesting/questionable. A passage can be anywhere from one sentence to four sentences.

2. Let your reader know WHO is writing that passage and WHERE they wrote it, and then put that passage into your own words.

In The Climate Casino, William Nordhaus says...[insert summary here.]

3. Once you have completed your summary, it's time to let your reader know what ideas you found interesting/questionable.

I agree/disagree when Nordhaus says ______ because_______.

Nordhaus' idea of ____ is important ___ because_________.

While I agree with Nordhaus when he writes _________, I disagree with when he says ________.

One thing Nordhaus neglects to mention is ________. This idea changes his arguments because ______.
